History
The UZH IncubatorLab (UZH IL) was set up in 2019 in the premises of the Institute for Regenerative Medicine (IREM). This was made possible by a donation from the Werner Siemens Foundation, which supports outstanding innovative research projects with the aim that they eventually operate independently or lead to industrial application.
The UZH IL was initially designed to offer tailored lab infrastructure and support to recipients of the UZH Entrepreneur Fellowship. Since then, it has hosted more than 20 translational projects in BioTech and MedTech, offering a space to generate proof-of-concept data, prepare for incorporation, and apply for follow-on funding.
Building on this foundation, access to the lab is now being opened to a wider group of UZH-affiliated translational researchers in life science. Teams with promising ideas and a clear need for lab space are invited to apply. (Details about application criteria and process see here)
Since its launch, the UZH IL has supported over 20 projects in BioTech and MedTech leading to the incorporation of 11 UZH Spin-offs.
