Regenerative Medicine at Scientifica 2026
From Curiosity to Cure
How can the human body repair itself? And how can a scientific discovery become a new therapy? Researchers from the Institute for Regenerative Medicine (IREM) at the UZH Faculty of Medicine explored these questions with visitors at Scientifica 2026, Zurich’s Science Festival, on 29 and 30 August.
At the IREM booth in the Lichthof of the UZH Main Building, visitors of all ages had the opportunity to discover regenerative medicine through interactive activities and engage directly with researchers. They could observe cells and tissues under the microscope, investigate how mutations can cause disease, and learn about the role of cells, biomaterials and bioreactors in engineering living heart valves and blood vessels.
Other activities included discovering different cell types and the potential of stem cells, as well as experiencing how a 3D printer transforms digital designs into physical objects.
The event offered a hands-on introduction to regenerative medicine and provided an opportunity to learn how research can contribute to the development of innovative therapies.
